Over the course of six days, you’ll traverse the breathtaking Ait Bougmez Valley, famously known as the “Happy Valley,” trek across high mountain passes, rugged valleys, and dramatic gorges in the M’Goun region. Along the way, you’ll discover traditional Amazigh (Berber) villages, interact with the warm locals, and experience the untouched beauty of this remarkable mountain range. Program Details
Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Bougmez Valley (1,800m)
Depart from Marrakech at 8:00 AM and journey through the mesmerizing Central High Atlas Mountains. Marvel at the changing landscapes as you approach the Ait Bougmez Valley, also known as the “Happy Valley.” Upon arrival, you’ll receive a warm Berber welcome with mint tea and enjoy a leisurely walk through the fields and villages of the valley. The day concludes with an overnight stay at a local guesthouse.
Drive: 6 hours
Day 2: Ait Bougmez – Ait Imi Pass (2,910m) – Zerkan Valley – Tighremt N’Ait Hamed (2,300m)
Start the trek with a gradual ascent to the Ait Imi Pass, where you’ll be treated to panoramic mountain views. After reaching the summit, descend into the Ouzighimt Valley, passing through several picturesque Amazigh villages and lush terrain. Camp overnight in Tighremt N’Ait Hamed.
Hiking: 6.5 hours | Ascent: 1,100m | Descent: 600m
Day 3: Tighremt N’Ait Hamed – Ouzighimt Valley – Imi N’Irkt
Follow the river through the Ouzighimt Valley, stopping at charming villages along the way. Watch local women gather firewood and work in the fields, providing insight into the daily lives of the Berber people. After lunch near Taghraft, continue your trek to Imi N’Irkt, where you will set up camp for the night.
Hiking: 5.5 hours | Descent: 500m
Day 4: Imi N’Irkt – Tighanimine
Cross rivers and enjoy breaks in the refreshing waters as you trek towards Tighanimine. Stop for tea and lunch near the Ifasfas spring before continuing your journey to the village of Tighanimine, where you will camp for the night.
Hiking: 5 hours | Descent: 500m
Day 5: Tighanimine – Boutaghrar
As you walk through fields of crops and orchards filled with fig, walnut, and apple trees, you will pass through traditional Amazigh villages. Continue to the Boutaghrar Valley, where you’ll enjoy lunch near Tamgalouna village before setting up camp for the night.
Hiking: 5.5 hours | Descent: 400m
Day 6: Boutaghrar – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
On the final day of your trek, depart early and drive through the scenic Valley of Roses, famous for its Rose Festival in May. Continue on to Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Sahara,” and cross the Tizi N’Tichka Pass (2,260m) en route to Marrakech. Arrive in the evening, bringing your adventure to a close.
